One woman was killed and another was seriously injured in a head-on collision Sunday, just north of Billings, according to Montana Highway Patrol.

Highway 3 was closed for part of the afternoon following the crash.

A southbound passenger vehicle, driven by a Billings woman, swerved into the northbound lane, colliding with a sport utility vehicle. Her car caught on fire, said Craig Baum, Montana Highway Patrol Sgt.

The driver of the sport utility vehicle was transported to St. Vincent Healthcare, where she has been listed in serious condition.

No names have been released at this time, pending family notification. The investigation is ongoing.
